大学・大学院進学の準備コースとは
英国の公立大学には、日本の高校卒業資格のみでは入学ができません。入学には、日本の高校卒業資格に加え、日本の大学入試に相当するプラスα（SAT、Aレベル試験、国際バカロレアなど）が必要とされます。
準備コースは、このプラスα部分に相当する、大学入学に必要な知識を身につけるコースです。日本の高校卒業を卒業した人が、英国の大学に入学する際には、多くの留学生が準備コースに通っています。
このページで紹介するものは、基本的に「大学の条件付き入学許可証がもらえるもの」です。準備コース受け入れの際に、次年度に留学する大学から条件付き入学許可証がもらえます。
スタディ・スケジュール
全ての大学に当てはまるわけではないですが、基本的には上記のようになります。IELTS4.5の場合は、English Language Programからスタートすることになります。
準備コースを勧める理由は、大きく分けて二つあります。
１）早めに進路が決まって安心できる
準備コースの受け入れの際には、準備コースを修了したあとに進学する大学の条件付き入学許可証がもらえます。「準備コースを規定以上の成績で修了する」という条件のもと、準備コースを始める前に、次年度に留学を希望する英国の大学から「条件付き入学許可証」を受け取ることができます。
大学入学の一年前には、希望する大学の条件付き入学許可証を受け取れる仕組みになっています。早めにある程度の進路目標が決まるので、過度に将来の進路を不安視する必要はなくなります。
準備コースさえ始めれば、あとはしっかり勉強に集中して、無事に好成績でコースを修了させるだけになります。
２）高校の成績以上の大学を狙いやすい
難関大学を狙うのには厳しい高校・大学の英語力と成績でも、準備コースであれば入学できる可能性があります。
英語力に関して
要求される英語力は、進学予定の大学によって異なります。準備コースに入学するための英語力は、学士課程の準備コースでIELTS4.5-5.5程度、修士課程の準備コースで5.0-6.0程度です。日本で中等教育を受けている人でも、十分に手が届くできる点数です。
成績に関して
大学・大学院に直接入学するよりも、要求される高校・大学の成績の平均は高くありません。一定条件を満たせば、高校・大学の成績の総合が平均に満たなくても、英国の主要大学の学士・修士課程の準備コースに入学することが可能です。
「準備コースに通って英語力と知識を身につける」という条件つきのため、直接の大学・大学院進学よりも、仮入学許可のハードルは低くなっています。高校・大学在籍時の成績が進学の基準に届かなくても、準備コースで一定以上の成績を取ることで挽回できます。
